The Trust was established in 1997 to offer financial assistance to members who wished to undertake some type of training/further education, be it vocational, occupational or linked to the Labour and trade union movement. It is funded by affiliation fees from Branches as well as special fund raising activities by the Education and Health & Safety Departments.

The Trust was named after John Cope, the previous Regional Secretary of the London Region, who was a keen advocate of education opportunities. The Trust is not named “in memorial” as John is alive and kicking, but more as a mark of his enthusiasm and support.

Members from affiliated Branches can apply for sponsorship, are requested to seek their Branch’s endorsement, and are interviewed by a panel of lay member Trustees. Awards are made on the day and to date, over £110,000 have been given to more than 200 individuals.

The Trustees meet quarterly to interview candidates and the following dates have been set aside for interviews in 2008:

25 January, 4 April,

TBA ~ June 08, Spetember 08, December 08

For further information email Carol or call on 0208 202 8272.
