The GMB Legal Department offers a range of excellent services to members from personal injury to employment law.

These are listed below. By clicking onto the picture or the menu on the right of this page, you can visit each service to find more information and details.

Application forms for these services can be completed on line or if you prefer, paper copies can be requested by calling the number listed on the relevant pages.

Upon receipt of the forms or online versions, the Legal Department will forward them to one of our panel solicitors for assessment who are specialist in these matters.

 

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS

If you have suffered a personal injury either in or out of work, for example on holiday (UK mainland only) or in the street; you can make a claim for compensation for your injuries and associated losses. You have up to three years to claim from the date of the injury. You can download a

UK ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

If you have an injury as a result of a road traffic accident, whether you are a driver or passenger, or you are injured as a pedestrian you can use this service. It is also available to the family of members.

FREE LEGAL ADVICE

Use this service if you need legal advice on issues not related to your employment.

 

EMPLOYMENT LAW

Employment law issues are dealt with initially by your Shop Steward, Branch Secretary or Organiser. Employment Law advice is only for Members and does not cover families of members.

To be eligible for employment law services, your contributions (subscriptions) must be maintained at the full rate.

CRIMINAL/EMPLOYMENT ADVICE

Employees in all sectors can find themselves the subject of criminal investigations and prosecutions in relation to allegations that arise in the workplace or as a result of their employment.

GMB London and Andrews Angel Solicitors provide a twenty four hour emergency line for members to call if arrested or contacted by Police or other investigators wishing to interview them in connection with an alleged criminal offence in the work place.

ACCIDENT BENEFIT

For members who are up to date with their union subscriptions, and who have had an accident at work are have been signed off sick for more than three weeks.

 

ASBESTOS CLAIMS

The GMB has been at the forefront of campaigns to have asbestos imports banned.

This leaflet, prepared by Thompsons Solicitors, the UK's largest trade union personal injury law firm, describes the main asbestos conditions and how GMB members can get compensation.
