GMB HEALTH WORKERS OVERWHELMINGLY SAY NO TO THE
GOVERNMENT

CEC STATEMENT ON THE FUTURE OF THE NHS

  • GMB has no confidence in the unelected Coalition Government's management of the health service in England.
  • GMB is wholly opposed to the Health and Social Care Bill which dismantles and privatises the NHS.
  • The ability of staff to deliver patient care is deteriorating: waiting times are up, and more treatments are being rationed.
  • NHS staff are bearing the brunt: there is growing job insecurity and downward pressure on terms and conditions.
  • GMB calls on the Coalition to abandon the Health Bill and give the NHS the fair funding settlement it was promised.
  • GMB will continue to campaign against the Government's "reforms", to
champion a publicly-run NHS, and to represent and organise NHS workers.

Bullying and harassment within East of England Ambulance Service

It has been brought to our attention by individuals who have chosen to contact the GMB with their concerns, that employees have been, and are now, the subject of bullying and harassment within East of England Ambulance Service.

Bullying, harassment and intimidation takes on many forms within the workplace.  For many people, the effects of bullying can lead to overwhelming feelings that it may be difficult to talk about with someone else.  It is for this reason that the TUC frequently conduct free phone telephone surveys, thereby allowing employees to talk in the strictest confidence with regard to problems that they are experiencing within their workplace concerning harassment, bullying, etc.

The last survey carried out by the TUC identified that 5,000,000 employees have been, at one time or another, the subject of some form of bullying within their place of work.  Therefore, the GMB Union are carrying out a confidential survey in an attempt to establish how widespread the problem is within the East of England Ambulance Service.

I would be grateful if you could take the time to complete the enclosed questionnaire and return it in the prepaid envelope provided, in order that we can evaluate the depth of the problem and highlight the issues of concern to your employer.

In the event that some of your colleagues have not received this letter and the accompanying questionnaire, this may be due to the fact that we do not have their correct address on our system or that their GMB membership has lapsed.  In this case, please ask them to contact the GMB Baldock Office on 01462 499650, to update their details.

If any of your colleagues are not members of a trade union, but wish to join the GMB and take part in the survey, I enclose an application for membership, which can be completed and returned in the pre-paid envelope, together with your copy of the questionnaire. Any new members will then be sent a copy of the questionnaire to complete and return.

For additional copies of the survey please contact us at the GMB Baldock Office on 01462 499650 You can also complete the survey online at  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/gmbeeasbullying

GMB REACTION TO APPOINTMENT OF NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE AT EAST OF ENGLAND AMBULANCE SERVICE TRUST (EEAST)

GMB Surveys Members At The EEAST On Alleged Widespread Bullying at the
Trust and will share results with new CEO

GMB today reacted to the appointment of a new Chief Executive at the East
of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST).

Tony Hughes, GMB Organiser said, “On the day Andrew Morgan joins the EEAST
as Chief Executive, GMB sent an anti-bullying questionnaire to all its
members who work for the EEAST. GMB have recently reported an increase of
bullying by managers at the Trust. GMB needs to find out the scope of any
problem and will then share the results with Andrew Morgan CEO in the hope
that he will engage with GMB to deal with any adverse finding.

GMB very much hope that the new Chief Executive at East of England
Ambulance Service will put the emphasis on the ‘Service’ part of the title
of the Trust.
GMB also hopes that he will take immediate steps to stop the ridiculous
plans that have seen patients waiting on pavements for an ambulance to get
them to hospital, a downgrading of the qualifications of the crew members
and cuts to all part of the services.

GMB members who work for the Trust are looking forward to their initial
meeting with their new boss and hope that together the Trust can be built
into the best Ambulance service in the UK.”
