GMB - Britain’s General Union

The GMB is one of the largest Trade Unions affiliated to the Labour Party. The GMB affiliates to the Party at a national, regional and local level. There are active groups of both GMB MPs and MEPs, including members of the Cabinet and other ministers.

In GMB London Region, we affiliate to both the London Labour Party and Labour East and there are elected GMB representatives on the management boards of both regions. In London and the Eastern Regions, the GMB takes an active role participating in political activity – helping to ensure that the Labour Party, government ministers, MPs, MEPs and councillors are kept in touch with the views and concerns of GMB London region members.

Maintaining and improving links with the Labour Party is important to the success of the GMB. Through affiliation, the GMB legitimately has a voice within the Party to make sure that politicians are kept in touch with Trade Union members and to argue for policies, which benefit our members.

Individual GMB branches can also affiliate to local Labour Parties – to develop links at a local level. If you want your branch to affiliate to your local constituency party please contact the Hendon Office for the relevant information and form.
