RACE & EQUALITY
THE WAY FORWARD 2007
Welcome to the Race and Equality Committee page of the GMB London Region.
This Committee works to end discrimination on grounds of race, gender, disability, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, age, and religion both in work and in society.
The Regional Race & Equality Committee (RREC) is part of the national GMB structure and offers advice and guidance to the union on the above issues. Click on "Structures" in the right hand menu to see how this Committee is involved from members to the Labour Party and how we can influence decisions and policies.
The Committee is also involved in regional issues and more local initiatives for the region and its Branches. By clicking on "Campaigns" in the right hand menu you will see some of the more recent events the Committee has organised and supported.
Forthcoming events and targets are detailed in the "Committee Events" menu and everyone is welcome to come along and support.
A key aim of the Committee is to encourage every branch to elect a Branch Equality Officer (BEO). Any GMB member can volunteer to stand for election to this post. You can see the role and duties by clicking on "How to get involved" on the right hand menu.
BEOs are welcome to join the RREC where we discuss and agree campaigns, initiatives, elect members to national committees and delegates to other organisations promoting anti-discrimination causes.
It is only by promoting equality at every level, by active participation of our members and pursing changes both in work and society that we can make real progress.
