RETIRED MEMBERS ASSOCIATION
The GMB Retired Members' Association (RMA) aims to:- Provide practical assistance in the recruitment, retention and organisation of objectives of the GMB wherever and whenever possible;
- Campaign on behalf of retired GMB members, and thus bring about dignity in retirement;
- Work in partnership with like minded pensioner groups whenever it is appropriate to do so; and
- Comply at all times with the equal opportunity policies of the GMB.
Members of the GMB who are about to retire or have retired can retain their GMB membership for a single lifetime membership fee of £25. This fee can be paid directly to the London Region's Finance Department or though the branch.
A life time membership card will be sent and this ensures that members can continue to receive and use all the benefits and services as before.
In addition, retired members have access to the regional and national structures, involvement in campaigns.
All Branches should affiliate to the National RMA for an annual affiliation fee paid on an annual basis. The money is used to fund campaigns on issues affecting retired members and to help achieve their aims in bringing about a more balanced and fair society. Cheques should be made payable to the RMA.
The National RMA Committee meets quarterly, with an AGM in March of each year. In addition, there is an annual conference held in June with branch delegates elected at Regional RMA Conference held in January.
There are over 100 branches currently affiliated in the London Region and their fees help support campaigns to improve pensions and pensioners' rights. The committee organises lobbies of MPs and rallies and these events are advertised in the newsletter and through the branch structure.
Resolutions from the annual conference go to the CEC in an advisory capacity and the minutes are also circulated to the regions and branches. Each Region has an RMA Co-ordinator who is responsible for organising Regional activities, assisting with campaigns and liaising on issues of importance.
