GMB Young Members

Young workers can be exploited or treated badly at work both in terms of pay, training and safety because many young people are unaware of their workplace rights and there are always managers who will take advantage of this. GMB works to ensure young workers get the respect they deserve in the workplace.

In order to organise and co-ordinate our work,GMB London Region set up a Youth Committee. At the first meeting Keith Henderson and Yue Ting Cheng were voted on as acting chair and secretary respectively; their contact details are at the foot of this page.

We aim to be an effective, active committee reaching out to our youth activists and to recruit and organise young workers into the GMB. We can work together to address the problems and difficulties faced by young workers and strive for improvements in legislation.

We have established a "group email list" via googlemail groups (GMB-London-Region-youth@googlegroups.com)which we use as an internal communications network. The committee works closely with other groups including the race and equalities committee, Shout!, anti racist and anti fascist organisations.

We are currently looking for as many representatives from GMB London Region branches as possible to attend future meetings and become involved. If you are branch officer or member we would like to hear from you.
